If you haven’t read the three-book series, The Hunger Games, you should. It has the perfect blend of love, gory battles with swords, hunting for food, and a guy being eaten alive by wolves with human eyeballs. Sounds delightful, doesn’t it? Use free Alibris coupons for $5 off orders of $50 or more if you purchase all three – you’ll want to get through them as the movie is on its way!
Jennifer Lawrence has been chosen to play the part of Katniss Everdeen. For those of you who read the book, you might disagree with this choice a little bit. Unless they mess up her perfect mane and rub dirt all over her glowing complexion, she doesn’t look tough enough. Katniss is known for shooting her prey through the eyeball so the meaty heart is kept intact. That’s why I think Katherine Isabelle is a better choice. She’s been off the radar for a bit, but just look at this scene from Ginger Snaps. She’s got that barbaric quality that Katniss is forced to have when trying to survive:
Who do you think they’ll choose for Peeta’s and Gale’s parts? Here are my nominees and why:
Gale – Alex Pettyfer
Gale is a fast, smart and cunning hunter. He can outsmart people… and his prey – always making Katniss jealous when his traps have five or more rabbits in them. His physique would be a little leaner than Peeta’s, making me think of Alex Pettyfer in I Am Number Four. Check out this trailer and let me know what you think (Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’ playing in the background makes it that much sweeter):
Peeta – Channing Tatum
Peeta is big and muscular from years of lifting flour bags in his parent’s bakery – and running for the hills when his crazy mother threatens him. I was going to choose Jake Gyllenhaal for this part, but Peeta is so respectful and loving to Katniss… and Jake was a huge jerk when he split with Taylor Swift, so my mind wouldn’t let me put his face on Peeta’s character - Peeta’s anything but a jerk. Anyway, check out this clip from The Eagle and see why Channing will fit the warrior role just fine:
If I’m being 100% honest, Matt Damon is my choice for Peeta and Ryan Gosling for Gale. But the cast needs to be younger as most characters are around the ages of 18.
What male celebrities come to mind when you think of Gale and Peeta from the Hunger Games? Do you agree with Jennifer Lawrence for Katniss’ role?
