[ 5 ] September 13, 2010 |

Time to store away the pastel colors and bust out rich, darker tones.  This year’s fall fashion makeup trends range from nearly natural to bold and sassy.

Play around with some fall makeup looks and flaunt them this September and October. Check out these 2010 fall makeup trends:

Nearly Natural

I love the fresh, natural look of Charlize Theron’s makeup. This season, the nearly natural look is in. Focus on creating a smooth, even skin tone with primer, concealer and foundation. Then add a hint of blush for a naturally flushed look, skip the shadow, and apply a few coats of mascara.

For the perfect canvas and a flawless look, try Laura Mercier Foundation  Primer for $38. Use our StrawberryNet coupon for free shipping.

Purple Party

We’re not only seeing purple apparel and accessories popping up, but makeup too. No shades are off limit either – runway looks are showcasing light lavender shadows, deep plum purple lipstick and vibrant violet for nails. I love Beyonce’s vibrant shadow in this pick, and the peachy-nude gloss is perfectly subdued so her look isn’t overdone.

Try NARS Maracaibo Cream Shadow that can be layered or worn alone – just $22. Use our StrawberryNet coupons for free shipping.

Redlicious Smackers

Marilyn’s lips were always gorgeously painted in red, and you can enjoy the same classy look. When you decide on rocket-red lips, play down the eyes to make sure you don’t end up looking… err trashy. Opt for a matte finish rather than a glossy one, it has extra staying power and doesn’t run. Red lipstick queen Poppy King has some tips on finding the right shade and texture.

Check out Lancome’s line of reds including Red Stiletto, Oh My and Groupie. Use FragranceNet coupons for 15% off and free shipping on $7o or more.

Smokin’ Gems

Natalie Portman always rocks the smokey eye. Normally they’re done up with charcoal greys and blacks, but this fall, lighter browns and bronzes are in. At the 2010 Venice Film Festival, Natalie’s brown eyes twinkle as they’re lightened by bronze shadow with glints of gold. Just make sure, like Natalie, you wear a lighter gloss so the two features don’t battle each other out.

Try the Jane Iredale Kit, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes for $46. Use our free LovelySkin.com coupon for 10% off your order.

What do you think? Will you be sticking with one single look this fall, or playing with all of them?

Hey Rose! Thanks so much for your comment. I think based on what you’re saying, you need a blender brush. It’s a medium-sized brush with a rounded tip. Use it to blend (back and forth OR circular motion) where the light and dark colors meet in the crease of your eye. Here’s a tutorial for the smokey eye look that includes the three brushes you need and techniques. It’s by Beau Nelson, a makeup guru in my eyes :) Hope that helps. And thanks again for visiting us, Rose!

I like Natalie Portman’s smokey eye. But I can never get the look right. It always comes out too heavy, or you can really see where the light color ends and the dark one starts. Like, it’s not blended right or something… :(

You’re right Shayna; purple’s amazing for enhancing brown eyes. Kinda glad it’s in this year… I can turn these boring browns into lighter, brighter gems without looking weird – yay purple!!

Definitely agree. Hard to find anything wrong with it. I do like the plum eyeshadow Beyonce’s wearing. Purple’s great for enhancing brown eyes. :)
