I’m nuts about mid-century modern design. Teak credenzas, shag carpets, German ceramic, Danish chairs…I love it all.
And I’m currently (read: slowly) decorating my home with yard sale surprises, flea market finds and heirloom hand-me-downs. But one thing I love to buy new is lighting. I don’t need to deal with mid-century electrical and lots of online lighting stores are coming around to the MCM look.
My favorite is Lumens.com. They offer a good selection of really excellent mid century-style lights – some more affordable than others! Here’s a few of the best:
Elegant and unmistakably of the period, George Nelson lamps cast a soft, even glow and add instant cred to any MCM room.

Type 75 Task Lamp by Angelpoise–>
A classic of function, an icon of form.
Every desk needs one, even if you only
pretend to be an architect.
Bold, brassy, perfect above the Danish dining set. Pair it with the modern oil painting and teak sideboard.

Pear Bubble Lamp with Stand –>
Another classic ribbed George Nelson. Ideally at home on your Noguchi Cyclone side table.
<–JL340 Pendant by Artek Does a good impression of the PH5 Pendant at half the price. No glare, no fluff, made in Finland. Nuff said.
Dalton Table Lamp by Arteriors–>
Not as strictly-MCM as some of the others here, but the brass
base reminds me of hairpin legs and I love that drum shade on a table lamp.
Tripode G5 Floor Lamp by Santa & Cole–>
Another example of how nice a drum shade can look with long, thin legs.
Pruitt Floor Lamp by Arteriors–>
Pole lamps are all the rage. This one features 5 fully-adjustable metal cylinder shades.
Arc Floor Lamp by George Kovacs–>
A true classic of modern lighting design. The arc needs a big space though, so this one’s less ‘Junior 1 bed’ and more ‘sprawling atomic ranch’.
