We love a good read here at FS, especially when we can get Amazon books for cheap! So we’ve scoured the online giant’s bargain books selection for the 10 most entertaining reads you can get for a cool $10 or less. And don’t forget to use our Amazon coupons for even more savings.
1. It by Stephen King - $8.99
They don’t call him the Master of Fear for nothing. If you’ve never read the reason why most Gen X and Y members fear clowns, you might want to start now. If you’re brave enough, that is.
2. 1984 by George Orwell - $9.99
If your teachers didn’t make you read this infamous dystopian tale, you were really missing out. Without spoiling too much, it’s a book about a totalitarian society that’s not too far off from our own. Side note: this title was hilariously found listed under “non-fiction”.
The meme-worthy food website that launched this book (which shut down last year) was so-bad-its-good and the tradition continues in this collection of indulgent and disgusting foods. Meat cakes? Corn dog pizzas? Oreos stuffed with 30 layers of creme? Don’t mind if we do.
4. Wicked by Gregory Maguire - $7.99
You might have sung along to the musical, but have you clicked your heels for the bitingly witty book yet? Grab your broom already! No one mourns the wicked…
5. Serenity: Those Left Behind by Joss Whedon - $9.99
Sure, Buffy The Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon’s Serenity was a box-office flop, but it lives on in the form of this brief but entertaining graphic novel. All we have to say is: poor Wash.
The literary “trend” of remixing old classics with darkly funny monster themes might be over, but there’s no reason not to check out the book that started it all. Perfect for readers who prefer a little blood with their 19th-century romance.
7. Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane - $6.00
Nobody does psychodrama thrillers better than Dennis Lehane. This gothic mystery drama will be waaay more effective and chilling if you read it before watching the movie.
Is there really a bad time to prepare for a disaster? Not to mention the price of this definitive (and potentially life-saving) guide is definitely right.
9. The Corrections: A Novel by Jonathan Franzen - $6.00
Legendary novelist Jonathan Franzen’s 500+ page family opus was worth the long read at full price, so it’s absolutely worth it at a meager $6. Bonus: HBO will be adapting it into a mini-series starring Ewan McGregor.
David Sedaris eschews his usual wry essay style for a collection of grimly funny animal fables. It’s about as weird as it sounds, but still highly entertaining and undeniably Sedaris-like.
